Spain accepted its first detainee from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. The detainee, who was not named, is a Palestinian. He will be freed from custody but cannot leave the country. Spain plans to accept five Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Tehran again proposed a simultaneous swap of its uranium for prepared uranium rods to be used at its research reactor. This deal has already been rejected by the West. Iran denounced the assassination of a Hamas leader in Dubai.

Security forces killed six Taliban fighters, detained 14 more, and destroyed four bases in in Darra Adam Khel. Four Taliban fighters were killed in a premature detonation in Kurram. A large IED blast targeted members of an anti-Taliban committee in Peshawar; no one was hurt.


Iraq

Insurgents killed three Christians, three policemen, a soldier, and two civilians in attacks in Mosul and Baghdad. One insurgent was killed in Mosul. Security forces detained 12 wanted terrorists in Basrah. Iraq will sue the maker of a bomb detector.

The Taliban killed eight civilians in a bombing in Lashkar Gah in Helmand and an ISAF soldier in an IED attack in the South. Security forces killed 15 Taliban fighters and captured three Taliban commanders and three fighters during operations in Kunduz, Herat, Wardak, Farah, and Helmand.
