President Musharraf decided to not invoke emergency powers that would have delayed elections, restricted rights of assembly, and placed curbs on the media. The Taliban captured a village in Darra Adamkhel; five villagers were killed. Four soldiers were wounded in a bombing, and the Taliban ambushed a military convoy in North Waziristan. A relative said al Qaeda linked crime boss Dawood Ibrahim is safe and is not in Pakistan.
