Charting the data for US airstrikes in Yemen, 2002 – 2016

Since 2002, the US has been conducting a covert program to target and kill al Qaeda commanders based in Yemen. Reports show that strikes have numbered 158 since 2002, 157 with enemy deaths numbering 780 and civilian deaths numbering 105.
The data is obtained from press reports from the Yemeni press, wire reports (AP, AFP, Reuters, etc.), as well as reporting from The Long War Journal. Given AQAP’s control of the areas where some strikes occur, the exact numbers for casualties are difficult to know. The numbers below are estimates based on press reporting.
