US officials said the Obama administration is prepared to move ahead with unilateral limited strikes against the Assad regime in Syria, even without backing from allies such as Britain or endorsement by a UN resolution. Officials claim intelligence shows that forces loyal to Assad conducted the Aug. 21 chemical attack in Damascus; they also say Assad has been dispersing his assets over the past week in anticipation of a Western strike. Additional charges were filed against Adel Daoud, of Chicago, for soliciting the murder of an FBI officer; Daoud already faces terrorism charges. Robel Phillipos, a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzokhar Tsarnaev, was indicted for allegedly making false statements to investigating authorities. Two Algerian Guantanamo detainees, Nabil Hadjarab and Motai Sayab, were repatriated.
