US citizen plotted aerial ‘drone’ strikes on Pentagon and Capitol

Rezwan Ferdaus, a physicist from Massachusetts, planned an assault that involved striking the Pentagon and the Capitol using airplane models carrying bombs, blowing up bridges, and shooting politicians. He also sought to aid al Qaeda by building detonation devices for use in killing US soldiers overseas.


United States

Authorities arrested Rezwan Ferdaus, 26, in Framingham, Mass., after he accepted weapons from undercover agents, believing them to be his accomplices in an al Qaeda plot to attack the Pentagon and the US Capitol. The Northeastern University physics graduate also is accused of making bomb parts to be used against US forces in Iraq.


Thailand

Muslim insurgents killed four members of a security detail assigned to protect teachers in the south. Also, hundreds of CCTV units were torched on a highway in Pattani province.




Lashkar-e-Taiba

The US added two Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders to the list of global terrorists. Zafar Iqbal co-founded the terror group and is a top fundraiser, and Hafiz Abdul Salam Bhuttavi is the deputy emir and ideologue who aided in the 2008 Mumbai terror assault.

Police have again detained Lashkar-e-Jhangvi leader Malik Ishaq after claiming he inspired anti-Shia violence. Prime minister Malik vowed to hunt down Chinese terrorists based in Pakistan. A tribal lashkar in Bajaur killed an Afghan Taliban commander.

White House, experts dismiss Iran naval threat to US coast

The Taliban killed eight policemen in Helmand, three ISAF soldiers in the east, and a New Zealand SAS soldier in Wardak. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Helmand, Logar, and Nangarhar.

Tribesmen shot down a Russian-made Sukhoi fighter from the Yemeni air force in the Naham area outside of Sana’a. The government accused the Joint Meeting Parties of blowing up a pipeline in Marib.


Somalia

An unconfirmed Iranian press report claims “dozens” of people were killed in three US Predator strikes in Kismayo on Sept. 25. Shabaab claimed it will display the remains of a US drone it said it shot down in Kismayo.


Norway

Authorities have released Davud Jakobsen, one of three men recently charged with terrorism-related offenses linked to al Qaeda and involving plots in Norway and Denmark. Jakobsen, a Uighur, began working as an informant in November 2009 but still faces trial.
