Afghanistan

The Taliban killed three ISAF troops in the south and a member of the Marjah peace council in Helmand. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network fighters and commanders in Uruzgan, Kandahar, Logar, Kunduz, and Khost.


Iraq

Insurgents killed two US soldiers “while conducting operations in southern Iraq,” and a police captain and a soldier in Kirkuk. Four people were wounded in a bombing near a Christian church in Baghdad.


Yemen

President Saleh said he would consider resigning in 30 days if the opposition halted protests and joined the ruling governing coalition. Four Republican Guards soldiers and four “gunmen” were killed in a clash in Marib province.



Somalia

Shabaab executed two young boys in Mogadishu. Shabaab forces took control of the city of Dhusamareeb after clashes with the pro-government Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’a.




Kenya

Kenyan police arrested three Shabaab operatives on April 22 in Liboi as they attempted to return to Somalia. Police said the Shabaab fighters were Sudanese, Ugandan, and Somalia nationals.



Libya

Twenty-five people were killed in heavy fighting in the city of Misrata. Libya’s deputy foreign minister said government forces have suspended operations in Misrata but the tribes will attack rebel forces in two days if fighting does not end.
