Two Iranian naval vessels entered the Suez Canal. President Ahmadinejad’s regime arrested opposition leader Karroubi’s son. The National Iranian Drilling Company evacuated its staff and ceased drilling activities in Libya.




Pakistan

US Predators killed nine “militants” in an airstrike in North Waziristan. Abu Zaid al Iraqi, al Qaeda’s financier in Pakistan, and several Punjabis are thought to have been killed in yesterday’s Predator strike in South Waziristan. A US consular official in Pakistani custody for killing two gunmen is a CIA officer.




Afghanistan

A suicide bomber killed 32 civilians in Kunduz. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters and commanders in Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Khost, Paktia, Nangarhar, Takhar, and Jawzjan. Thirty Taliban fighters in Kandahar and 21 more in Badghis abandoned the insurgency.

Insurgents killed 10 policemen in a car bombing in Samarra and a civilian in Fallujah. Security forces detained 20 wanted men in Maysan and 10 more in Diyala.


Somalia

Shabaab claimed credit for a suicide attack in Mogadishu that killed eight people. The African Union said six foreign al Qaeda fighters were killed during heavy fighting over the past several days in Mogadishu that has killed more than 20 people.


Yemen

President Saleh rejected protesters’ calls for him to resign his presidency. Thousands of Houthis joined protests in Sa’ada, while more than 10,000 protesters continue their sit-in in Sana’a. Security forces arrested an opposition leader.

Pakistan: Colonel Imam was killed last month for spying


Libya

Government forces used military planes and live fire against escalating protests. At least 64 people were killed in Tripoli today, with hundreds more wounded; the conflict has killed over 200 so far. The justice minister resigned to side with the protesters, who now control key cities near the Egyptian border.
