Pakistan: Amnesty urges probe of Baloch killings and ‘torture’




Pakistan

Five people were killed in a bombing at a Sufi shrine in Pakpattan. Three people were killed in an IED attack in Arakzai. The military sealed the border between Kurram and Afghanistan. Two suicide bombers were detained in Karachi.







Thailand

Muslim insurgents carried out nine bombings in seven districts of Narathiwat province Monday morning, killing one person and injuring more than 10 others. Similar bombings in Yala and Pattani province left three others injured. Buddhist rubber plantation workers were the primary target of the attacks.


Algeria

Suspected Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb fighters killed two Algerian soldiers and wounded three others in an IED attack on a military convoy in eastern Boumerdes province. Algerian Prime Minister Ouyahia has pledged to “the complete disappearance of this plague [terrorism]” from Algeria.


Nigeria

Six suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Gulani police station in northern Yobe state. Police officers fended off the attackers after one gunman was killed. At least three police officers were wounded in the attack.


Iraq

Insurgents killed two people in a bombing at a hospital in Mosul and assassinated a senior electricity ministry official in Baghdad. Security forces detained seven wanted men in Basrah and three more in Kirkuk.

Yemen

Security forces in Aden discovered a bomb consisting of 1,800 grams of TNT which was placed near the Al Wahdah stadium, where a soccer tournament is to be held. The information minister claimed that “al Qaeda in Yemen is dying.”


Russia

A suicide bomber killed a policeman in an attack in Dagestan on Saturday. Five Islamist fighters were also killed in a shootout with police in Dagestan. Five people were wounded in a bombing in Ingushetia.
