The government banned Lashkar-e-Islam, Ansar-ul-Islam, and Haji Namdar’s virtue and vice group in Khyber agency. “Tribesmen” kidnapped 30 security personnel in Kurram agency. The bodies of eight men, including a former Taliban leader, were found in Kurram. A former Taliban leader said Mullah Omar is residing in Quetta.

The Islamic Courts have taken control of Beletwein in central Somalia after Ethiopian forces withdrew. Heavy fighting was reported between Shabaab and Ethiopian troops in Guri El. Shabaab ambushed a convoy of a senior police commander in Baidoa.

Coalition forces killed two al Qaeda operatives and detained two in northern Iraq. Iraqi Security Forces arrested the Mahdi Army fighters and three al Qaeda operatives in Baghdad. Seven police were killed and three wounded in a car bomb attack in Dalouiya.

Coalition and Afghan forces killed 32 Taliban fighters after being ambushed in the Khas Oruzgan district in Oruzgan province. Afghan forces killed a Taliban leader in the Maywand District in Kandahar. A Coalition helicopter made a hard landing in Paktia province.
