A Tunisian court jailed 10 men for for attempting to join al Qaeda fighters in Iraq. One of those convicted received a five-year term, the rest received two-year terms. Over 1,000 Tunisians have been arrested on terrorism charges since 2003.

The Egyptian Intelligence Minister promised to increase efforts to stop weapons smuggling into Gaza. Hamas refused demands to release an Israeli soldier. Israeli and Palestinian leaders are to meet on Thursday, Abbas will demand a settlement freeze.

Iran

Russia sold Iran the S-300 anti-aircraft missile defense system that Russia claims is superior to the US Patriot missile battery. Iran is also looking to buy helicopters and fighter engines from Russia. Tehran is planning on building 19 nuclear power plants. Malaysia signed a $16 billion deal to develop to Iranian gas fields.
