Fighting between the Islamic State and other rebel factions, including Al Nusrah, remains ongoing in northern Aleppo province. The US has accused the Assad regime of enabling the Islamic State’s advance in the area with airstrikes. The Turkish president has said an opposition journalist who leaked video purporting to show Turkey supplying arms to Syrian rebels will “pay a high price.” Iranian President Rouhani stated that his country will back the Assad regime “until the end of the road.” Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani has vowed a forthcoming strategic surprise in the conflict. The US-led coalition conducted five airstrikes against the Islamic State in Syria in the past day; four were near Hasakah and one near Kobani.
