Al Murabitoon

Al Murabitoon, the group formed in August 2013 by the merger of the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) and Mokhtar Belmokhtar’s al-Mulathameen Brigade, reportedly issued a statement on Jan. 4 detailing its attacks in Mali, Algeria, and Niger in 2013. It also threatened France, warning that it would continue to attack the French and their allies with raids, car bombs, explosive devices, and rockets. A spokesman for the group in northern Mali refused to comment on reports that Hassan Ould Akhlil, a leader and spokesman for al-Mulathameen, was killed in November by French forces near Tessalit in Mali.
