Security forces killed two Syrian nationals, one of whom was wearing an explosive belt, in a shootout in Western Bekaa. Two other Syrians were wounded in the clash, which occurred when troops intercepted a van with Syrian plates that was carrying explosives. Six people have died in four days of clashes in Tripoli between supporters and opponents of the Assad regime. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham released video of ISIS fighters firing rockets at Hezbollah camps in the Bekaa valley.

Authorities discovered a field hospital in the Sinai thought to be used by Islamist militants. Authorities raised the alert level on the Libya border to prevent the infiltration of militants. A policeman was shot and killed by gunmen in el Arish, and two border guards were injured by an explosive device. An official in Gamaa al-Islamiya said the group will not return to violence and does not necessarily support the return of Mohammed Morsi. Supporters of former president Morsi called for mass protests on Nov. 4, the day Morsi goes to trial.

Authorities are preparing to hand over the bodies of 36 Palestinian terrorists to the Palestinian Authority. Over two dozen Palestinian prisoners will be released by Israel in the coming days as part of ongoing peace talks with the Palestinians. Authorities seized 14,000 crowd dispersal weapons that an importer allegedly sought to sell to the PA.

A bomb attack killed an Investigative Committee member in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, and an IED detonated near a military convoy on Dagestan’s Khasavyurt-Babayurt motorway. A Molotov cocktail was thrown at a mosque in Volgograd, and several of them set fire to the house of an Islamic cleric in the city on Oct. 22. The families of two Kazakh jihadists in Syria are asking authorities to help bring the two men home. Video was released of a Russian engineer kidnapped in Syria; authorities are checking its authenticity; another Russian citizen was reportedly kidnapped in Syria earlier this month.

“Gunmen” on a motorcycle shot and killed a colonel in Yemeni intelligence in an attack on the streets of the capital of Sana’a. Saudi Arabia has suspended aid to Yemen “until the country settles down.”

Pirates kidnapped two US sailors from a US ship off the coast of Nigeria; US authorities are not treating it as terrorism. Suspected Boko Haram militants killed 18 civilians and injured 12 others in Borno state. Dr. Bello Hakeem Baba Ahmed, a member of the government committee appointed to negotiate with the al Qaeda-linked group, claimed that Boko Haram is purely a Nigerian issue, unconnected with any other international terror organization. He also claimed that 90 percent of Boko Haram’s leaders have been killed, “so the rest want to fight and die.”

A joint French, UN, and Malian operation was launched to sweep Islamist militants out of three northern regions. A French military spokesman said it is the largest joint operation the three forces have undertaken so far in Mali, involving several hundred French soldiers.
