Radical Islamic scholar Said Buryatsky is believed to be among six killed in a shootout in Ingushetia today. He is thought to be the spiritual mastermind and adviser behind a wave of suicide bombings that have plagued the North Caucasus in recent months. Buryatsky was a well-known star in Russia’s Salafi circles, most notably for his Internet audio sermons, before he joined the insurgency in June 2008.
