Eleven US soldiers and three civilians were killed when three helicopters crashed in western Afghanistan. Afghan and Coalition forces killed five Haqqani Network fighters and detained two more in Khost. The governor of Nangarhar escaped an assassination attempt; security guards killed a suicide bomber and captured another. Twelve policemen were wounded during clashes with protesters in Kabul.
