The Taliban publicly executed a “criminal” in Swat. The military said stability would be restored in Bajaur in two months.



Iraq

Iraqi and US forces detained 53 suspected Shia insurgents in Nasiriyah. The former chief of police in Haditha was detained for involvement with “armed groups.” Three civilians were killed in an IED attack in Baqubah. A US soldier was killed in an IED attack near Iskandariyah.

A suicide bomber killed five civilians in Khost province. Twenty Taliban fighters were killed during operations in Kandahar province. Coalition forces detained two Haqqani commanders and three operatives in Khost. The Taliban freed 118 Afghan laborers who were kidnapped last week in Farah.
