Coalition forces killed two al Qaeda fighters and detained one during raids in central Iraq. US soldiers stopped a suicide car bomb attack in Mosul.

The Taliban has praised the new government’s plan to repeal the Frontier Crimes Regulation and conduct negotiations. Police arrested a “top militant” in Swat. Two warring tribes in Kohat declared a cease-fire after 35 people were killed in clashes. The first joint intelligence center manned by US, Afghan, and Pakistani agents has been opened.


Mahdi Army taking significant casualties in Baghdad, South

The Mahdi Army has had 145 fighters killed, 81 wounded, 98 captured, and 30 surrendered throughout Iraq during the past 36 hours. Nasiriyah and Diwaniyah appear to be in government control and heavy fighting continues in Basrah, Baghdad, Karbala, and Babil provinces.
