Mosul’s chief of police was killed in a suicide bombing; the governor has declared a curfew. Iraqi security forces arrested 22 insurgents and disabled six IEDs in Baghdad. Police killed a suicide bomber in Khalidiya. Karbala police captured an al Qaeda leader in the province and two men wanted for incidents last August.

ISAF said “several” Taliban fighters were killed during an airstrike in Ghazni province, and nine Taliban were captured during a ground operation. A local doctor claimed nine Afghan policemen and two civilians were killed in the airstrike. One Canadian soldier was killed and two wounded in an IED attack in Kandahar.
