Nawaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan, according to reports. The military has blockaded food shipments into Taliban controlled areas of Swat; the Taliban threatened suicide attacks if the blockade is not lifted. The Peshawar Corps Commander said the writ of the government will be established in Swat at all cost.

The Taliban recaptured the Gulistan district in Farah province. The Taliban beheaded seven police officers after overrunning their checkpoints in Kandahar’s Arghandab district; six other police are missing. One Australian solider and three civilians were killed during fighting in Tarin Kowt in Uruzgan province. ISAF forces killed several extremists and captured two while targeting a foreign fighter facilitation cell in the Nawa district of Ghazni province.
