The government is considering a “grand operation” in Waziristan. to ask retired military officers to oppose Musharraf. The Taliban is warning barbers to stop shaving beards in Mardan in the NWFP.

Morocco

The jihadi who blew himself up at an internet cafe in Casablanca earlier this month was the leader of a 30 man terror cell planning to bomb the Moroccan port cities of Casablanca, Agadir, and Essaouira. He detonated his vest after the cafe owner called police. Twenty-four of the 30 man cell have been captured.


Indonesia

Indonesia police believe they are on the trail of Abu Dujana, the man behind the Bali and Jakarta bombings. A new group called the National Islamic Front has been established to “facilitate dialogue with radical Islamist groups and Communist leaning groups.”






United Kingdom

British police arrested 3 men in connection to the 7/7 London Tubes bombing attacks. Two of the men were arrested at Manchester airport, preparing to travel to Pakistan, and a third man was arrested in Leeds.


Somalia

The Somalia government claimed Aden Hashi Ayro is now al Qaeda’s commander in Somalia.Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, the leader of the Islamic Courts, defended the insurgency.



Afghanistan

NATO and Afghan forces killed 40 Taliban and captured 8 during combat operations in Girshk in Hemand province. Poppy cultivation in southern Afghanistan is “out of control,” according to the UN. German support for a presence in Afghanistan is dwindling.

Iran is said to be backing over 3,000 militiamen split off from Muqtada al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army. The IRGC is said to be funding, arming and training the fighters inside Iran. Te splinter Mahdi Army forces is led by Qais al-Khazaali, a former spokesman for Sadr.
