A senior member of the Syrian National Coalition condemned as inappropriate the announcement that 10 rebel groups and the Al Nusrah Front have joined together, repudiated the SNC, and called for sharia. Fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant attacked and desecrated two churches in Raqqah, and flew the ISIL flag atop one of the churches. Kurdish YPG fighters clashed with ISIL in Aleppo; the ISIL emir of Aleppo, an Emirati, was killed. Regime forces clashed with the Al Nusrah Front, Ahrar al Sham, and rebel units in Deraa. ISIL kidnapped two Kurdish men in Aleppo. Kurdish YPG fighters have captured several Hasakah villages since Sept. 14, when ISIL, Al Nusrah, and rebel fighters attacked, from the Turkish border, the village of A'louk.
