Unidentified gunmen attacked a security checkpoint in Rafah. A security source alleged that 37 militants have been killed within the past two weeks. Hamas' Ismail Haniyeh held discussions with Egyptian intelligence officials. A former ambassador to the US was named Egypt's new foreign minister. Prosecutors reportedly began questioning former president Morsi about his 2011 prison escape, which is believed to have been orchestrated by the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, among others. Egypt's public prosecutor ordered the freezing of assets of 14 Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist leaders. Army sources played down the likelihood of a major offensive in the Sinai in the coming days. US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns is expected to hold talks with Egypt's interim government this week.
