The Afghan Taliban have closed their office in Doha at least temporarily in protest against the removal of their flag and a plaque that identified the office with the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan." Some senior members of the Taliban said, however, that the office is not closed but its activities are suspended. One stated: "We wanted direct talks with the US whereas the Afghan government has been planning to hold negotiation with us, which is not acceptable to us."
