Taliban announces death of Jalaluddin Haqqani
Jalaluddin fought the Soviets, served as the Minister of Frontiers during the Taliban rule of Afghanistan from 1996-2001, was a member of the Taliban’s Quetta Shura, or governing body, and father of Sirajuddin Haqqani, one of the Taliban’s two deputy emirs and overall military commander.

Taliban terrorists lay siege to Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul
The Taliban quickly claimed credit for an assault on the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan. The jihadists’ siege lasted more than half a day before it was finally ended by Afghan security forces.

The Haqqani Network
The US added Qari Zakir to the list of global terrorists. He serves as head of the Haqqani Network’s suicide operations in Afghanistan and the operational commander in Kabul, Takhar, Kunduz, and Baghlan provinces, and runs the network’s training program. The United Nations added the Haqqani Network to its sanctions list and added Qari Zakir to its terrorist list.

The US government signaled it was still willing to negotiate a peace deal with the al Qaeda-linked, Pakistan-backed Haqqani Network in Afghanistan. “We are not shutting the door on trying to determine whether there is some path forward,” US Secretary of State Clinton said.

Siraj Haqqani, the operational commander of the al Qaeda-linked Haqqani Network, has threatened to strike at Afghan judges and courts if one of his fighters who was captured during the Feb. 19, 2011 attack on the Kabul Bank in Jalalabad in Nangarhar province is executed by the Afghan government.

The Haqqani Network
The Haqqani Network released old footage of captive US soldier Bowe Bergdahl. The soldier is seen with Mullah Sangeen Zadran, the senior Haqqani Network commander. Bergdahl has been in missing since June 2009.
