Monique, a Dutch woman, has retrieved her teenage daughter Aicha from the Islamic State-held city of Raqqah, Syria after the girl, who had married Dutch-Turkish jihadist Omar Yilmaz, asked for help. Aicha was arrested on her return. Authorities are investigating a breach of confidential police files, including cases involving suspected jihadists traveling to Syria. A man who posted a video online calling for Zionists to be shot was sentenced to 60 days in jail, 44 of them suspended.

The national antiterrorism coordinator said 12 suspected Islamist militants were arrested in the Hague yesterday, and added that authorities are conducting 30 investigations involving some 60 people suspected of recruiting fighters for extremist groups in the Middle East. The mayor of the Hague said municipalities need government help in monitoring returning jihadists; about 30 of 160 jihadists known to have traveled to Syria from the Netherlands are thought to have returned. Demonstrators in support of the Islamic State were reportedly expected to take part in protests today at The Hague against police violence. Dutch police warned those planning to appear at a protest on Aug. 3 in Amsterdam against the Gaza offensive that Nazi symbols, Hitler salutes, the Islamic State flag, and flag burning will not be tolerated at the protest. On July 31, Islamic State supporters marched in The Hague waving black flags and chanting “Death to the Jews!”

Authorities arrested a 19-year-old woman in Zoetermeer, just east of The Hague, on suspicion of recruiting jihadists for Syria, after families complained that relatives had gone to Syria to fight. A broader investigation has also been launched into the recruitment of Dutch jihadists; while travel to Syria cannot be prohibited, the recruitment of jihadists is punishable by jail terms and fines. At least 107 Dutch citizens are believed to have gone to Syria for jihad.

A Dutch court halted the extradition to the US of Dutch-Pakistani al Qaeda suspect Sabir Khan until the US can guarantee he will receive the same special PTSD treatment he has been receiving in the Netherlands. He was arrested in Quetta, Pakistan in 2010 and has been indicted in the US for aiding al Qaeda and trying to kill US soldiers in Afghanistan, including planning a suicide attack in Kunar province.

The government has raised the terrorist threat level to ‘substantial’ due to concerns about jihadists returning from conflict zones, and estimated that nearly 100 people had recently left the Netherlands for jihad. Many of them are said to have joined al Qaeda’s Al Nusrah Front.

Four Dutch suspects, two men aged 21 and 35 and two women aged 33 and 52, faced charges of “attempting to transfer, possession or use of a toxic substance, possibly sarin.” The only suspect named is “Islam A.,” a Dutch-Turkish citizen. Officials said the arrests were not terrorism-related and local media speculated the incident involved a lovers’ tiff, but prosecutors indicated the suspects had sarin in their possession.

Police arrested four suspects for concealing or selling the deadly nerve agent sarin. A man and a woman were arrested outside Maastricht, and two men were arrested in nearby Heerlen. One of the suspects has dual Dutch-Turkish citizenship; the other three are Dutch citizens.
