Gunmen attacked the Russian Embassy in Tripoli with RPGs and other weapons. The gunmen attempted to enter the compound, the Russian foreign ministry stated, claiming the attack had been repelled. Libyan media said the embassy was looted and burned, and blamed a crowd of attackers, some armed, who were angered by the killing of a senior revolutionary commander by his Russian girlfriend or wife. Gunmen in Benghazi assassinated a naval officer and seriously wounded his son.
