A popular TV presenter who had just delivered a mosque lecture on assassinations and car bomb attacks in Benghazi was killed in a drive-by shooting in the city. A colonel on the army's general staff was shot and killed in Tripoli. Human Rights Watch reported that there have been at least 51 political assassinations in the eastern cities of Benghazi and Derna since the Libyan uprising in 2011, and no one has been prosecuted for the crimes and no suspects are being held. No one has claimed responsibility for the killings, which have increased over the past 12 months, and the only suspect escaped.
