Why are the US paratroopers walking into a village rather than riding in or walking behind one of their $1 million plus armored vehicles? And, are the vehicles parked in this photo rather than operating close to the soldiers?

I am surely unaware of something in these tactics, but the threat of IEDs would appear to make such tactics far too risky for the perceived benefits.
