Hundreds of Taliban break out of Kandahar jail

Between 470 and 540 Taliban escaped Afghan government custody through a tunnel under a Kandahar jail. The Taliban claimed that fighters outside the prison engineered the 350-meter tunnel over a period of five months, whereas Al Jazeera spoke to an escapee who claimed that prisoners also dug the route and had help from some Afghan police. Approximately 100 senior commanders are reported to be among the escaped prisoners.
