Israeli forces kill at least 3 Salafi jihadists near Hebron

Salafi Jihadists Hebron Nov 26.jpgAt least three Salafi jihadists were killed during clashes this evening with Israeli forces in the Hebron area. The Salafi jihadists were part of a cell that has been preparing to carry out a series of attacks against Israeli targets and the Palestinian Authority in the “coming days,” an IDF spokesperson told The Long War Journal.

Israeli military sources told The Long War Journal that a number of people tied to the cell had recently been arrested and that additional arrests were likely to take place today. In recent months, the IDF said, members of the terror cell have been trying to procure weapons and establish a military infrastructure.

Two handguns, as well as explosive devices, were found on the slain Salafi jihadists, the IDF said. According to locals, the three killed were Moussa Abdelmajid Fanasheh, Mahmud Khaled Najjar, and Mohamed Neirukh, AFP reported.

It is not yet known if the Salafi jihadist cell had a connection to any of the Gaza-based Salafi jihadist terror groups, such as the Mujahideen Shura Council in the Environs of Jerusalem.

“This terrorist network is just a sample of those who try to harm Israeli civilians and undermine the existing security stability,” IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.
