The key, possibly, may well be to begin by neutering Pakistan geopolitically, by warning China, for instance, that any aid given by China to Pakistan would be mirrored by equal aid from the US to Taiwan. Russia might well be similarly admonished, that Georgia would be the beneficiary of any Russian arms sales to Pakistan or Iran. In this way, every adventurous step contemplated by Russia or China is painful for these nations even before it is taken, and justifies -- on the basis of 'fair prior notice' -- the inevitable US response.
