The US launched airstrikes against the Islamic State near the Mosul Dam in support of Kurdish offensive operations to retake the dam. The chief of Iraq's military objected to US airstrikes and the arming of Kurdish forces as violations of Iraq's sovereignty. The Peshmerga retook control of the towns of Batmay and Telskef north of Mosul from the Islamic State and killed 17 Islamic State fighters in Diyala. The FAA prohibited US airlines from flying over Syria, and warned that extremist groups in Syria with anti-aircraft weapons are opposed to the provision of civil air service to Syria. The Islamic State posted a brief video on social media threatening Americans that it will "drown all of you in blood" if US airstrikes hit IS fighters.
