The US pulled nonessential staff from its diplomatic facilities in Sudan and Tunisia. Abel Daoud was arrested in an FBI sting operation and charged with trying to detonate a bomb in a downtown Chicago bar. Daoud had expressed admiration for Osama bin Laden and wished to engage in violent jihad. In Virginia, Amine el Khalifi was sentenced to 30 years in prison for plotting to bomb the US Capitol.
