West African military chiefs say that Nigeria, Niger, and Senegal have agreed to provide the bulk of a planned 3,270-troop intervention force to wrest northern Mali away from Islamist and separatist rebels. The UN Security Council is considering the African Union's request for "urgent" support for an intervention in Mali; France has indicated it will support an intervention that is approved by the UN.
