Algerian security forces killed Rachid Sid Ali, a military adviser to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, along with his aide during an operation in the Kabylie region east of Algiers. Ali was responsible for coordinating the triple suicide attack against the prime minister and security forces headquarters in Algiers in April 2007. Algerian security forces also killed 16 al Qaeda operatives in two separate raids.
