Mullah Fazlullah ordered assassination of Pakistani schoolgirl

Mullah Qari Fazlullah.

Mullah Fazlullah, the emir of the Swat branch of the Movement Taliban in Pakistan (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP), ordered the assassination of Malala Yousafzai, a young schoolgirl in Swat who has spoken out against the terror group. Malala and two other girls were shot while on a bus in Swat on Oct. 9. From Dawn:

The Swat Taliban militia, known to work under the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) umbrella, has a force of around 100 men specialised in targeted killing, fighters said. They chose two men, aged between 20 to 30, who were locals from Swat Valley, Reuters quoted the fighters as saying.

"We had no intentions to kill her but were forced when she would not stop (speaking against us)," said spokesman Sirajuddin Ahmad, now based in Afghanistan's Kunar province.

Ahmed said the Taliban held a meeting a few months ago at which they unanimously agreed to kill her. The task was then given to military commanders to carry out.

In another report, the Associated Press quoted the spokesman as saying that the meeting of the Taliban leadership was held two months ago.

AP further quotes Sirajuddin Ahmed as saying that Malala Yousufzai was warned three times to stop her activities promoting "Western thinking," but she did not. The last warning was conveyed a week ago, Ahmed told an AP reporter.

....

"Before the attack, the two fighters personally collected information about Malala's route to school, timing, the vehicle she used and her security," Reuters quoted Ahmed as saying.

They decided to shoot her near a military checkpoint to make the point they could strike anywhere, he said.

On Tuesday, the two men stopped the bus she was riding home in. They asked for Yousufzai by name. Although the frightened girls said she wasn't there, the men fired at her and also hit two other girls in the van. One of them remains in critical condition.

Now that they had failed to kill Yousufzai, they would target her father, Ahmad told Reuters.

Ziauddin Yousufzai, the headmaster of a girls' school, is on their hit list for speaking against them, his activities to promote peace in the region and for encouraging his daughter.

"We have a clear-cut stance. Anyone who takes side with the government against us will have to die at our hands," Ahmad warned. "You will see. Other important people will soon become victims."

Several hours later on the day of the attack, Ihsanullah Ihsan, the top spokesman for the Movement Taliban in Pakistan, took credit for the attempt to murder Malala, in an email received by The Long War Journal. The Oct. 9 email, titled "Important Clarification," is reproduced in full, and unedited, below [emphasis added]. Ihsan tries to justify the assassination by claiming that Malala opposed sharia, or Islamic law, and that accordingly her assassination was "obligatory" under Islamic law.

TTP successfully targeted Malala Yousafzai in Mingora, although she was young and a girl and TTP does not believe in attacking on women, but whom so ever leads campaign against Islam & Shariah is Ordered to be killed by Shariah.

When its a matter of Shariah, and someone tries to bring fitnah with his/her activities, and it involves in leading a campaign against shariah and tries to involve whole community in such campaign, and that personality become a symbol of anti shariah campaign, not just its allowed to kill such person but its Obligatory in Islam.

If anyone Argues about her so young age , then the Story of Hazrat Khizar in Quran that relates that Hazrat Khizar while Traveling with Prophet Musa (AS) killed a child, arguing about the reason of his killing he said that the parents of this child are Pious and in future he will cause bad name for them.

If anyone argues that she was female, then we can see the incident of killing of wife by a blind Companion of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) because she use to say insultive words for prophet. And prophet praised this act.

Its a clear command of shariah that any female, that by any means play role in war against mujahideen, should be killed. Malala Yousafzai was playing a vital role in bucking up the emotions of Murtad army and Government of Pakistan, and was inviting muslims to hate mujahideen.

Tehrik taliban's crime wasn't that they banned education for girls, instead our crime is that we tried to bring Education system for both boys and girls under shariah. We are deadly against co-education and secular education syestem, and shriah orders us to be against it.

If anyone thinks thinks that Malala is targeted because of education, that's absolutely wrong, and a propaganda of Media, Malala is targeted because of her pioneer role in preaching secularism and so called enlightened moderation. And whom so ever will commit so in future too will be targeted again by TTP.

After this incident Media pour out all of its smelly propaganda against Taliban mujahideen with their poisonous tounges, they are shouting that malala has suffered tyranny like there is no else in the country whom is facing same. Were our sister in lal masjid whom were bombed, gassed and burnt to death, were not humans?? and the sinless women and children of swat , bajour, mohmand, orakzai, & Wazeeristan whom suffered inhumane bombardments by Murtad army don't qualify to bestow mercy upon them?

Will the blind media pay any attention to Hundreds of Respectful sisters whom are in secret detention centers of ISI and MI and suffering by their captives? Will you like to put an eye on more then three thousand young men whom are killed in secret detention centers and their bodies are found in different areas of swat, claimed to be killed in encounters and died by Cardiac Arrest??

Gain Conscious, Otherwise............

From: Ihsan-ullah-Ihsan
Central Spokesman TTP

The Pakistani media and a good number of Pakistanis are outraged by the attempted murder of Malala, and many believe this incident may in fact be the tipping point against the Taliban. But don't count on it.

The Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan has conducted numerous atrocities in Pakistan (and in neighboring Afghanistan), including the public beatings and executions of women, mass-executions of policemen and soldiers, suicide bombings inside mosques and at markets and other public places, and other such attacks. These incidents sometimes spark temporary outrage, but often are responded to with indifference or even apathy. Like them, the Malala assassination attempt will very likely fade from the consciousness of Pakistanis, while the drone strikes, which are often directed against Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan leaders such as Fazlullah and his boss, Hakeemullah Mehsud, will remain a hot-button issue.

"But don't count on it." Well said!

So all this" outrage" and yet no effort to arrest the bastard!! How fake and hollow is Pakistani "Justice".

Posted by Jeff Edelman at October 12, 2012 10:56 PM ET:

I know we are going to see stories of the Pakistanis burning the taliban flag. The whole region is going to erupt over this like they did the movie. These people love life more than they do the koran.

I agree with you, Bill, the Pakistani "outrage" will fade away before long, and everything will go back to the status quo.

That country has a malignant cancer. And rather than to try to get rid of it, they nurture it.

I am amused that Long War Journal is TTP's primary Western media contact. Keep up the good work..

Posted by naimi at October 13, 2012 1:02 AM ET:

this Mullah Fazllulah also rapped several boys in the mosque. He used mosque to gain sexual contacts with boys and teens.

Posted by Spooky at October 13, 2012 2:40 AM ET:

Fazlullah fled to Afghanistan after the 2009 offensive. Therefore, he couldn't be arrested.

As for this fading away, normally this would be true, but right now its campaign season in Pakistan and the lines on this issue (as with the Balochistan issue) are being drawn on the need to fight off the Taliban and how Malala disproves Imran Khan's theory.

Another reason why there might be movement is that the 2009 offensive has been deemed a failure by the media over there and the Army is taking alot of heat for it, which means that they'll have to show something to counter the impression.

All this said, the effect on the populace overall will still be temporary (because the myriad of problems they face like energy and other crises always take precedence, no matter what country), as will be the solutions by the military (because until Kiyani and a few others step down, they will remain feckless). But, much like how the takeover of Swat turned Pakistani support for the Taliban to at least ambivalence (and in some cases, hostility), this incident could very well have the same lasting effect on the psyche.

What it means practically is that it pushes parties like the PTI in a corner, especially when it comes on the heels of the Waziristan march. Its not much, but its something.

What an ugly man. I can smell him from here.

Mullah Fazlullah - Radio Mullah “The Hero" of Swat. (You mean to say he was NOT killed back in - what was it - late May 2010? - and the time before that. Lots of lives for one man.) My sense of this situation is that we need to just let the Pakistanis know that we will not be giving them anymore aid until they can hand over this individual, along with the command structure of the Haqqani and the top tier of the Pak-Taliban - which we have long ago pasted into the “kill or capture” book.

' Seems that we need only demand a little more “quo” for our “quid." As in: IF we give you hundreds of millions of dollars you WILL give us what we want. This idea will be something that our “friends” will understand. It is WE who do not understand; and THAT situation continues to amuse the hell out of our “ally” - and has done so for years now...

An ally who can be bought will sell you out for a higher price. One who will take your treasure and then not perform is your enemy, and thinks you are a fool.

Time for Pakistan to stand up by our side - and do their job. Or its time for us to TAKE THEIR NUKES and walk away.

@Bill: The Ihsan-ullah-Ihsan email is pregnant with statements that a criminal psychologist or a criminal psychiatrist could use to analyze the minds of animals like Ihsan-ullah-Ihsan. The resulting profile or the expert medical analysis would make a very interesting article. Please use your many contacts to find an expert who can explain the mental processes that control this sick puppy.

Men like Fazlullah is the reason why the 2014 timeline needs to be tentative based upon the conditions of the country. Really Mr. Vice President???? you want to leave the targeting of monsters like that in the hands of Afghans that are not even close to being ready. Oh I am sure they will get right on it because you asked so nicely. Come on USA let us show some resolve. We fight until mission complete and not on a political timeline.

@Nic - I like the post- the comment " minds of animals like Ihsan-ullah-Ihsan"- outrage is good
but we will

We should have a section in LWJ where detailed profiles of these top wackos should be published.
including Hamid Gul (ISI), including AQ Khan the thief, including Nawaz Sharif(PML-N).

For one I would like to psycho-analyze Imran Khan and those who affect nuke security in Pakistan.
It would answer the following question - would he be a party to smuggling nukes out of "land of the pure". At some point the WH might decide to kill the SOB which should send a message to Pakiland that their rich and powerful are not safe even after 2014.

Posted by Port Blair at October 14, 2012 12:54 AM ET:

Will the Pakistani press be targeted now for reporting
the Malala episode. The answer is yes- read the Tribune today. Journalists like Alameida are on the hit list.

Pakistan is a nuclear armed rogue state with more than 90 warheads. They have a lot of loose nuclear material that will boil down to dirty bombs or water contamination.

Short of destroying the entire nuclear
infrastructure of pakistan there is nothing the US can do to avoid a nuclear holocaust.

Posted by Charu at October 14, 2012 3:52 AM ET:

Everyone's a cynic when it comes to Pakistan for good reason. Malala will soon fade from the consciousness of Pakistanis once their English-writing columnists and high-society butterflies have had their chance to demonstrate their liberal sensitivities and how they are no different from people in the West.

However, I disagree that monsters like Mullah Fazlullah are the US's responsibility. He is Pakistan's and Waziristan's problem. When he targets American schoolgirls then he becomes ours.

Congratulations, Bill, for the recognition by the TTP of the Long War Journal as THE western media deserving of their pitiful, inadequate explanation for this heinous crime.

Perhaps it is time to order the same for Mullah Fazlullah.

I honestly believe the rest of the world wouldn't skip a beat if this country were erradicated from the earth.

The Taliban are not the Keepers of the Flame. Not Holy. Not True. They are not the Righteous Guardians of the the Faith. They believe their own lies and seek only to protect themselves as if a cowardly pack of dogs soiling all that is Good and Pure. This one unforgivable act in particular will now always and forever be associated with them - they will never be free of it. It will be the first thing that will to mind when their names are spoken. They will never wash themselves clean of this ugly act. Go back to the Darkness from which you came!
