Shabaab to try, execute 3 more Somalis for ‘spying’

Yesterday Shabaab announced on its Twitter account, @HSMPess (Harakat Al-Shabaab Al Mujahideen), that it would try “3 TFG spies.” The so-called spies are “currently undergoing interrogation,” (definitely not a pleasant experience, based on Shabaab’s history of brutality).

Shabaab already seems to have passed judgment on the three spies, noting that they will be “will be publicly executed” if “convicted.”

Earlier this week, Shabaab announced the execution of three other “spies” who worked for the CIA and MI6. Two of the men were responsible for helping the CIA track and kill Bilal al Berjawi, a British al Qaeda operative, and “3 other Muhajireen [immigrant] brothers.” Berjawi was killed in a US drone strike in January. See Threat Matrix report, Shabaab executes 3 alleged spies, for more details.

The @HSMPress tweets from yesterday are reproduced below, in chronological order:

3 TFG spies caught by Mujahideen are also currently undergoing interrogation. They are charged with espionage &will be tried by Shari’ah Law [Link]

If convicted, the three men will be publicly executed. Spying on Muslims is the ultimate form of treason and carries the death penalty [Link]

  • Mr T says:

Spying on Muslims is in the Koran?
I wonder what rules they follow for interrogations since they are not a legitimately recognized entity signed on with international law.
I guess they just make it up as they go. How nice for them.
