A new audio tape recording purportedly of Osama bin Laden appeared on the al Qaeda-affiliated Al-Ekhlaas Internet forum. In the message titled, "The Response Will Be What You See, Not What You Hear," bin Laden threatens to "punish" the European Union over the recent re-publication of cartoons depicting Islam's Prophet Mohammad. The voice on the tape has not yet been verified as belonging to Osama bin Laden.

A purported al Qaeda spokesman says nine al Qaeda commanders have been killed by security forcers in southern Afghanistan recently. Those killed were identified as Abu Anas, Abu Abdullah Al Asmi, Shuaib Sahrayee, and Abu Masaab Al Tami from Saudi Arabia; Khalid and Nauman from Pakistan; Abu Zaki from Kuwait; Jafar from Tajikistan; and Abu Musa from Turkey.
