The Islamic State has seized 325 Kurdish villages around Ayn al Arab. The Islamic State beheaded four YPG fighters, three of whom were female, and displayed their heads in Jarabulus. The leader of Kurdish PYD forces called for weapons for Kurdish fighters outgunned by the Islamic State in Kobani. Turkey claimed that the Islamic State is advancing on the tiny Turkish territory around the tomb of Suleyman Shah in Aleppo. The Islamic State has reportedly freed 70 of 153 Kurdish schoolchildren kidnapped by ISIS in northern Syria in May. The vice commander of the al Ummah Army was assassinated and its commander's guard was wounded in separate attacks in Reef Dimashq. The Al Nusrah Front and the Islamic Front clashed with regime forces in Damascus.
Coalition airstrikes hit the large Koniko gas plant in Deir Izzour, which also houses an Islamic State prison; granaries in the IS-held city of Manbej in Aleppo; three local oil refineries and a plastics factory in Raqqah; and in Markadah in Hasakah. About 1,500 Kurdish fighters have joined the YPG in recent days to battle IS in Aleppo. The Al Nusrah Front and the Islamic Front clashed with regime forces in Aleppo, Quneitra, and Reef Dimashq. Al Nusrah's emir threatened coalition countries with retaliation for the airstrikes in Syria and warned Syrian rebel groups not to cooperate with the coalition.
The Islamic State advanced in Hasakah after clashes with Kurdish YPG forces. Coalition airstrikes targeted the Islamic State in Aleppo, Deir Izzour, and Homs; coalition airstrikes were carried out also in Deraa, Hama, Hasakah, and Idlib. The pace of the air campaign in Syria is said to be now similar to that in Iraq, with "near continuous" sorties; but only 8 of the 48 coalition airstrikes so far in Syria have targeted al Qaeda. The Al Nusrah Front, the Islamic Front, and rebels clashed with regime forces in Damascus and in north and west Aleppo; and with Islamic State forces in Dabeq in Aleppo. Al Nusrah Front spokesman Abu Firas al Suri claimed that the coalition airstrikes are part of the West's war on Islam and said the jihadists in Syria are engaged in a long war that could last decades.
