In Deir Izzour, the Islamic State took over Boqros after the Al Nusrah Front, Ahrar al Sham, and other Islamic Front factions withdrew; the IS also took control of the Attank oilfield from a sharia body consisting of Al Nusrah, the Army of Islam, and other Islamic Front factions; and negotiated terms for the surrender of former Al Nusrah stronghold Al Shihl, requiring residents to repent, turn over weapons and fighters, and vacate the city for 10 days. Demonstrators in Ghranij protested against the IS. In Raqqah, regime airstrikes targeted IS in Raqqah City and by the 17th Division. In Aleppo, the IS clashed with Kurdish YPG fighters near Ayn al Arab; and Al Nusrah and the Islamic Front battled regime forces. In Reef Dimashq, Al Nusrah bombed a regime convoy near al Qalamoun, and the Islamic Front clashed with regime forces in western Ghouta. The Islamic Front also fought against regime forces in Homs and Quneitra.

With the fall of Mayadin as well as Shujail, the home town of the Al Nusrah Front's emir, the Islamic State controls contiguous territory along the Euphrates River Valley from the town of Jarabulus, which borders Turkey, in Syria's northern Aleppo province to the town of Anah in Anbar province in Iraq.

The Islamic State (formerly ISIS) clashed with the Al Nusrah Front and the Islamic Front in Deir Izzour, where the IS took over Al Rez, bombarded areas in Al Shhil said to have served as Al Nusrah's main headquarters in Syria, arrested people in Albu Kamal, and was targeted by regime airstrikes near Al Bisri. In Raqqah, the IS called for people to people swear allegiance to IS caliph al Baghdadi as Amir Al Mumnin (commander of the believers), and regime airstrikes targeted IS-held areas in Raqqah city. In Aleppo, the IS battled the Islamic Front, the Al Akrad Front Brigade, and rebels. Eleven rebel groups in Aleppo and Raqqah, including the Raqqa Rebel Brigade and the Kurdish Front, threatened to quit fighting if they do not receive reinforcements and weapons within a week. Jaysh al Islam leader Zahran Alloush called IS fighters "dirty bastards, with an evil ideology," and urged efforts against the IS. In Reef Dimashq, the Islamic Front and Jaysh al Islam clashed with the IS in Mida'a and with regime forces in Ayn Terma: and both the Islamic Front and Al Nusrah fought against regime forces near Esal El Wared on the Syrian- Lebanese border and near Al Mleha. Al Nusrah and the Islamic Front also battled regime forces in Homs and Idlib. Regime authorities removed roadblocks in western Damascus, citing improved security.

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb has issued a statement praising the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham's (ISIS) gains in Iraq and calling for reconciliation between jihadist groups in Syria. The statement was authored prior to the ISIS declaring that it ruled over a caliphate and rebranding itself the "Islamic State."
