Part of Arlanda airport in Stockholm has been closed due to a bomb threat involving a passenger plane that was scheduled to depart for Baghdad, Iraq shortly after noon. The plane has been emptied of passengers and moved to a location under police control; police described the threat as "serious."
An explosion early yesterday morning damaged the entrance of a Malmo district courthouse and blew out windows; hours later, the Malmo appellate court was evacuated when a suspicious package was discovered. A Sri Lankan man who claimed he had a bomb and tried to rush the cockpit while aboard a flight from Dubai to Stockholm was arrested and charged with "attempted aviation sabotage" on Feb. 2. A voltage meter found today on the lawn of cartoonist Lars Viks' house caused a bomb squad alert.
Haytham Rahmeh, the Syrian-born former leader of a Stockholm mosque, is said to have smuggled large quantities of weapons to Syrian rebels for the past 18 months. Rahmeh reportedly purchased the weapons primarily in Libya, but also in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with the help of a group named the Commission for Civilian Protection transported them through Turkey to Syria. He is a member of the Syrian National Council and a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Weapons smuggling is a violation of Swedish law punishable by up to four years in prison.
German police have reportedly asked Swedish authorities to investigate a 28-year-old man from Västerås who is suspected of involvement with longtime jihadist Mullah Krekar and nine other people in plans to establish an Islamist terror network. Krekar is currently imprisoned in Norway, where he is serving a two-year sentence for making death threats.
