A photo of Omar Hammami, the American who has served as a commander, propagandist, and recruiter for Shabaab, has been released on the Internet. The photo shows Hammami with a copy of his autobiography, which was released last week.

Shabaab and al Qaeda formally said the two groups have merged. Ayman al Zawahiri announced "the joining of the Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement in Somalia to Qaedat al-Jihad, to support the jihadi unity against the Zio-Crusader campaign and their assistants amongst the treacherous agent rulers."

Omar Hammami, the American Shabaab military commander, released a nasheed glorifying death, and said he hoped to die as other senior al Qaeda leaders have died. Hammami's tape refutes reports of his death from Somalia's defense minister.
