Hamas announced the death of a Qassam Brigades fighter who died after an accident in a tunnel used for military purposes. Hamas said that the government in Gaza is losing $230 million a month as a result of the closure of smuggling tunnels. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met with US envoy to the peace process, Martin Indyk, to discuss current negotiations with Israel.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh denied that Hamas was meddling in the affairs of any Arab states, in particular Egypt and Syria. In addition, Haniyeh called on Palestinians to wage a "popular uprising" in the West Bank. Two years after completing an exchange deal with Israel for Gilad Shalit, Hamas warned that it is prepared to abduct more Israelis.
