A suicide bomber rammed a car into a military convoy in Tank and killed 2 soldiers and wounded 8. The Taliban shot and killed a senior paramilitary commander in a sophisticated ambush in Tank just hours after 4 Taliban were killed in a firefight. Two explosions in Quetta killed one and wounded 2.

Three Uzbeks were among the 4 killed in yesterday's strike on an al Qaeda camp in North Waziristan. The 8 government workers kidnapped by the Taliban in North Waziristan have been freed. The Taliban bombed a music shop in Charsadda. The Lashkar Islam has put out a order to kill a journalist and close music shops in Bara.




The government called off an operation against the Lal Masjid. The Pakistani military attacked an al Qaeda camp in the Zargarkhel village in North Waziristan. Waziristan based Taliban are massing in Swat and being sheltered by the TNSM. A "student of a local madressah" detonated a bomb near Interior Minister Sherpao's home in Charsadda. "There is no Al Qaeda base in Pakistan," said the Foreign Office. Qari Saifullah Akhtar, the chief of the banned Harkatul Jihad al-Islami, was released from custody.




Security forces cordoned the area around the Lal Masjid and arrested 36 members. Three more police were kidnapped by students of the Lal Masjid. The "Lal Masjid brigade" is digging fighting positions as Maulana Ghazi has threatened a wave of suicide attacks. The Taliban blew up 10 fuel tankers in Torkhum. The tankers were heading to Afghanistan to supply NATO forces.




The government caved to the Lal Masjid demands and released 4 members of the mosque in exchange for 2 of the 4 kidnapped police. The Taliban beheaded a 'US spy' in North Waziristan. A tribal jirga in Mohmand Agency met to discuss preventing the 'Talibanisation™ of the agency. Bannu police found 3 suicide vests on a bus bound for Lahore. Bannu tribes vowed to take action against the Taliban if the government did not.




The Lal Masjid 'brigade' has kidnapped 4 Pakistani policemen and accused them of 'spying™ for the government. The Taliban kidnapped 8 government officials in North Waziristan. Police believe Matiur Rehman is "spending most of his time in Waziristan training and organizing al Qaeda militants." Christian residents of Charsadda have pleaded with the government to provide protection after Taliban threats to kill them if they don't convert to Islam.




President Musharraf admits al Qaeda is in Pakistan: "Al -Qaeda is in our mountains, in Mir Ali [North Waziristan]. This is completely true." The government has pardoned Faqir Mohammed, a self described al Qaeda leader. Tank is under curfew.




Clashes between the Taliban and security forces in Tank led to 6 killed and 15 wounded. The Interior Ministry has called for the arrest of the Quetta based Mullah Hadi terrorist group, which is "reorganising the old jihadi elements for terrorist activities in the country." NATO has demanded an inquiry into the death of a US soldier during an ambush after a meeting in Kurram agency. The Lal Masjid has broken off talks with the government.




Baitullah Mehsud's Taliban from South Waziristan attacked a police checkpoint in Tank. The Peshawar suicide bombing has "links with terrorists operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan™s troubled Waziristan region," and was directed against anti-Taliban Pakistani informants. Punjab is on high alert for suicide bombers attacking military targets.




[UPDATE2] Pakistani and American soldiers clashed during a meeting about border security in Kurram agency in the NWFP. Reuters reports 2 American soldiers were killed after a Pakistani soldier opened fire. AFP reported 3 Americans and 2 Pakistanis were wounded. Pakistani and Taliban forces clashed in Tank, resulting in 2 killed and 10 wounded.




Afghan and Pakistani security forces clashed at the border "when Pakistani forces attempted to install an outpost in eastern Afghanistan." The government has issued shoot-on-sight orders to paramilitary forces in Karachi in an effort to end the rioting. Security forces arrested 25 TNSM fighters in the Kabal region of the NWFP. Chitral has again become a focus of the hunt for Osama bin Laden.




Yesterday's riots in Karachi which stemmed over the arrival of the chief justice led to 34 killed and over 140 injured as the police stood by and allowed the fighting. Air and train service was disrupted or canceled due to the violence. "Armed men" attacked a private TV station in Karachi.
