South Waziristan commander takes the helm of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, a unified Taliban movement in the Northwest Frontier Province. The Taliban in the tribal agencies and districts in the Northwest Frontier Province are now under Mehsud's command.


Pakistani troops retook Charbagh near Mingora in Swat; 14 of Fazlullah's fighters were captured. The Interior Minister said the Swat operation will end shortly and polls will be held in the Taliban district. The Taliban attacked the Bajaur Scouts headquarters with rockets, while the tribes are holding a "peace jirga."

Two suicide bombers killed 16, including 11 police in Quetta in Baluchistan province. Fifteen soldiers were killed and 38 wounded in Taliban ambushes in North Waziristan. Intelligence agencies foiled a plot to assassinate President Musharraf by arresting al Qaeda operatives in Karachi.

The government is prepared to lift the state of emergency by December 15. Twenty Taliban were killed and up to 15 wounded in a helicopter assault and artillery barrage in Swat. Fifteen Taliban and six soldiers were killed after the Taliban ambushed a convoy in North Waziristan; 20 soldiers were wounded. The Taliban publicly executed a criminal in Kohat. Four CD shops were bombed in Peshawar.




The Taliban and al Qaeda are targeting Pakistan's nuclear facilities. The military successfully tested the Babur Hatf-VII cruise missile, which can carry nuclear weapons and has a 700-kilometer range. Ibn Aameen, a Swat Taliban commander, was killed; five civilians were killed in a Taliban rocket attack in the district. South Waziristan Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud threatened to interfere with elections if seven of his lieutenants are not freed.

At least three attacks on Pakistani nuclear weapons complexes have occurred since August 2007. Attacks on other Pakistani bases in conjunction with the Taliban takeover of the Northwest Frontier Province may be part of coordinated campaign to compromise Pakistan's nuclear stockpiles.

Two suicide bombers hit in Swat and Kamra. The Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra is part of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program.


A suicide bomber killed 10 in Swat; another suicide bomber wounded seven, including five children, on a bus at a military base in Kamra. Swat's Maulana Fazlullah admitted he was injured, denied "foreign fighters" were in the district, and vowed to fight for sharia. One of Fazlullah's spokesmen said Indian intelligence agent infiltrated the Taliban. The Taliban attacked a police station in Mardan. A bomb damaged a girl's school in Peshawar, while rockets were fired at an airbase in the district.

The military said 230 Taliban have been killed and 150 arrested during the Swat operation, while Fazlullah's fighters still control regions in the north and east of the district. Locals are forming "defence committees" in Swat. One Taliban fighter and a policeman were killed in a clash at a checkpoint in Charsadda city.

The state of emergency will be lifted on December 15. Pakistani forces found a prison and liquor after capturing Maulana Fazlullah's compound. Eight more Taliban, including one of Falullah's aides, were killed. Locals are destroying the homes of Fazlullah's fighters. The Jamaat-e-Islami is offerring "tickets to heaven" to those who fight emergency rule and the fight against the Taliban.
