Twenty-two civilians and 35 Taliban fighters were killed in a Pakistani airstrike in Swat. Two soldiers were killed in an IED attack on a convoy in Swat. Pakistani aircraft bombed areas in Bajaur, no casualties were reported. A Jamaat-e-Islami leader claimed 1,500 civilians have been killed in the Bajaur operation.

US doubtful senior al Qaeda leader killed in South Waziristan strike

US intelligence is skeptical of claims that senior al Qaeda leader Khalid Habib was killed in an Oct. 16 airstrike.


The Taliban again said it would not lay down its weapons prior to negotiations. The Jamaat-e-Islami has called for negotiations with the Taliban. Security forces arrested 168 terrorists over the past several days. Thirteen Taliban fighters were killed in Bajaur.

Government inks peace agreements with Taliban in North & South Waziristan

Deals have been cut with Mullah Nazir and Hafiz Gul Bahadar. The agreements directly conflict with government policy on negotiating with the Taliban.


The government signed peace agreements with two senior Taliban leaders in North and South Waziristan. The Oct. 16 strike in South Waziristan may have killed senior al Qaeda leader Khalid Habib. Security forces claimed to have killed 75 Taliban fighters in an attack on a camp in Swat. The Taliban is pressuring the Awami National Party to change its policy on extremism.

The latest US Predator strike in Pakistan's tribal areas hit in the town of Ladha, where the Pakistani military abandoned a fort earlier this year.


Four policemen were killed and 16 wounded in a suicide attack in a police station in Swat. The Taliban destroyed several police checkpoints in Bannu. The Taliban said they were ready to lay down their weapons and negotiate. The military is preparing for "decisive action" in Bajaur.
