Al Qaeda, tribal allies 'control' Fallujah

While the military and allied tribes organize to retake areas of Ramadi and launch operations in other cities and towns, Fallujah, a city that once represented the seat of power for al Qaeda in Iraq, has again fallen under control of the group.

At least 32 people were killed as the military and tribes in Anbar battled the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham in Fallujah, Ramadi, and other cities and towns in the province. An ISIS commander known as Abu Abelrahman al Baghdadi is said to have been killed during the clashes. The ISIS is still in control of large areas in the cities.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham has taken control of sections of Ramadi and Fallujah. In Ramadi, a large convoy of ISIS fighters has been seen moving through the city.


"Islamist militants" attacked police stations and government buildings in Fallujah, Ramadi, and Tarmiyah to free prisoners and seize weapons. Fighters are in control of areas of Ramadi and Fallujah. In Tarmiyah, four policemen were killed after jihadists assaulted a police headquarters in the city.




Twenty-three Iraqis were killed in violence throughout Iraq over the past 24 hours. Forty Sunni members of parliament resigned in protest after a senior lawmaker was detained in Ramadi. Prime Minister Maliki said he would turn security in Anbar over to the police.




The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham killed 18 people in a series of bombings and attacks. In Mosul, a suicide bomber killed eight soldiers, including a brigadier general. Four more soldiers were killed in Garma and four Awakening fighters were killed in Baghdad.




Security forces clashed with bodyguards while arresting a prominent Sunni member of parliament in Anbar who has been critical of Prime Minister Maliki. Three of the MP's bodyguards and two siblings, and a soldier were killed during the fighting. A curfew has been imposed in Ramadi.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham killed three Awakening fighters in Kirkuk. Security forces captured seven ISIS fighters in Anbar. The US is sending weapons to Iraq to aid in the fight against the ISIS.




The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham killed 37 Iraqis in attacks that targeted Christians in Baghdad. More than 900 Awakening fighters in Anbar province volunteered to fight alongside the Iraqi military against the ISIS.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham killed five television employees, including an anchorwoman, in a suicide assault on Al Iraqiya State TV in Tikrit. The ISIS also killed five soldiers in a mortar attack in Abu Ghraib and two policemen in an IED attack in Mosul. Security forces killed two ISIS fighters in near Samara and destroyed a camp close to the Syrian border near Anbar.
