US forces raided an office of Sunni politician Saleh al-Mutlaq as part of raids on al Qaeda safehouses. Six inurgents were killed. Iraq shut down the Sharkiya TV station for "reporting false news and inciting sectarianism." The Iraqi Army captured 3 al Qaeda cell members near Fallujah. Six insurgents were detained near Yusufiyah.
Saddam Hussein was transferred to the Iraqi government and immediately executed by hanging. His last words were "Down with the traitors, the Americans, the spies and the Persians." Saddam was buried in his home town of Awja, near Tikrit. About 75 Iraqis were killed and 125 wounded during attacks throughout the country, including a large suicide bombing in Kufa.

The Iraqi Army and US conducted a raid on a Mahdi Army IED facilitator near Najaf. During the raid, a US soldier killed Saheb al-Amir, a senior Sadr aide who was the IED facilitator.
British and Iraqi forces destroyed the headquarters of a Basra police Crimes Unit after receiving intelligence of torture and planned execution of prisoners. A bomb in a Baghdad shopping area killed 10. Four Iranians, including two diplomats, were detained by American forces and released. President Talabani protested the arrests.
