An Iraqi soldier is suspected of killing two US soldiers in Mosul on Dec. 26. Five more Awakening Councils have been set up in regions in Diyala. A Fallujah tribal chiefs council member was assassinated.

Two Iraqi police were killed in an IED attack at a checkpoint in Amarah.

General Petreaus said Iran is no longer supporting Shia terrorists. US soldiers found an EFP cache in Amil in Baghdad. US forces captured an al Qaeda military commander of southern Baghdad and detained five fighters in Zambraniyah. Three policemen were killed and four wounded in an attack in Mosul. The Iraqi Army arrested a high-ranking al Qaeda commander north of Baqubah. Salahadin's governor denied Izzat Ibrahim al Douri is sheltering in the province.

The region north of the city in Diyala continues to be an al Qaeda "haven," and raids in the region have resulted in dozens al Qaeda operatives killed or captured over the past several days. Fifty-one al Qaeda leaders, including a media emir in Diyala, were killed or captured in December.
