Bombings in the northern city of Mosul killed four policemen and left 46 other people injured. The Iraqi Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr made an appearance in the holy city of Najaf to explain his "absence" to his follwers. Coalition forces targeted a suspect believed to be the replacement for the former Saudi al Qaeda in Iraq senior leader and foreign terrorist facilitator Abu Yasir al Saudi, also known as Jar Allah, who was killed by Coalition forces Feb. 27.

A dual bombing in Baghdad killed 42 Iraqis and wounded 120. Coalition forces killed four al Qaeda operatives and detained 26 during raids in central and northern Iraq. Iraqi security forces detained four al Qaeda operatives in Baghdad. Coalition forces detained four Special Groups operatives in Baghdad. An Awakening council was established in Khalis. A surge brigade is leaving Baghdad.

The US military said Iran is still training the Special Groups. Coalition forces detained 22 al Qaeda operatives during raids in northern and central Iraq. Iraqi forces detained two al Qaeda operatives in Wasit province. Basrah police have launched an emergency security plan in the city. Four Awakening Council Fighters and two civilians were wounded in a car bomb explosion east of Samarra.
